Assistant or Associate Professor of Graphic Design

Job Summary:

The Department of Art & Design invites applications for a full-time, tenure or professional track faculty position in Graphic Design, at the Assistant or Associate level, starting August 1, 2026.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Conduct teaching within a private, Christian university of the professions, liberal arts, and sciences.
  • Standard teaching load consists of three studio courses per semester, or equivalent, on a 9-month contract.
  • Teaching responsibilities would consist of a variety of graphic design courses. Possibilities include:
    • Digital Design Fundamentals (Adobe CC)
    • Typography 1
    • Typography 2
    • Web Design 1 (UI)
    • Web Design 2 (UX)
    • Graphic Design 1 (type and image, branding)
    • Graphic Design 2 (packaging, design systems)
    • Advanced Graphic Design
    • Professional Practices and internship supervision
  • Help maintain the Art & Design equipment including an iMac lab, large-format printers, Risograph, and letterpress studio.
  • Conduct a research/scholarship agenda that is integrated w/ teaching assignments.
  • Provide service to the program and the university in the form of student advising, committee assignments, and maintaining office hours.
Qualifications:

Required qualifications:

  • An accredited terminal degree (M.F.A. or M.Des. in Graphic Design, or equivalent) or 15 years of professional experience.
  • Minimum five years of industry experience with a terminal degree.
  • Proficiency in industry standard software & emerging software including Adobe CC, Figma, etc.
  • Collaborative skills to work with colleagues in the Department and throughout the University. Many students in Graphic Design courses major in programs such as Architecture, Communications, Computer Science, Marketing, etc. as well as Graphic Design majors.
  • Demonstration of an active and growing Christian faith, and commitment to excellence in teaching within a Christ-centered academic community.

Preferred qualifications:

  • An accredited terminal degree (M.F.A. or M.Des. in Graphic Design, or equivalent) with 10 years or more years of design industry experience.
  • One year or more of teaching experience in Graphic Design coursework beyond graduate teaching assistantship or fellowship.
  • Experience in conducting research individually and with the support of students.
  • Knowledge of digital trends, AI, interactive design, user experience design.
  • Ability to teach other art and design courses including foundations 2D and 3D design, photography, videography, printmaking, etc.
Salary/Benefits:

$50,000 – $60,000 Rank and salary based on qualifications, education, and work experience.
