Shawn Williams ’20 is a Business Administrator at Biofortis Research. When Shawn first applied to , his GPA was not the highest. He also brought with him the difficulties that come from making wrong decisions, hanging out with the wrong people, and struggling with drug addiction. However, Shawn says he found acceptance, understanding, and encouragement from his professors and peers at from day one! “My background was holding me back from pursuing my future, but at I learned about the importance of setting goals, following through with those goals, and changing your outlook on life… gave me a chance to go farther!” For Shawn, one class, in particular, helped give him the push to go beyond his comfort zone.

In his work, Shawn uses his education as he builds budget proposals, prepares invoices, and works with the senior accountants to complete month-end closing financials for a Dietary and Nutritional Research institute. He remains connected to by serving as the Student Representative for Non-Traditional programs to ’s Board of Trustees and has also volunteered to serve as a Mentoring Program (JUMP) Mentor.

As he continues his post-grad journey and plans to complete his MBA this Fall of 2022, he says “I want to be the example that it’s never too late to reach and achieve your goals! None of this would have been possible without the chance given to me by . They didn’t judge me off my past but on what I can bring in the future and the changes I made in my life. Hence why I fell in love with and the community.”
